"Under Your Skin" - 2019 - Feature Project

( "Under Your Skin“ is the finalized title for the work formerly known as “Tattoo You”)

This film was made as part of the Savannah College of Art and Design’s School of Digital Media collaborative production. In this project, the work of creating an animated short was broken up into the three production phases (pre-production, production, and post-production) for each of the three academic quarters. To participate, students must submit their portfolio for approval from the head of the animation department.

Our basic story was created with the help of several creative writing majors. In it, audiences are introduced to Tate and Iris: coworkers in a tattoo parlor who have just started a relationship. However, in this world the tattoos come to life once they’re completed, reflecting the personality of the artist, so when the budding relationship becomes rocky, Tate and Iris’s business is suddenly at risk.

As part of the pre-production team, my job was primarily to create all six of the characters in our cast. In-between this work, I also produced color roughs to help establish lighting, design assorted props, and created promotional material to help recruit the animation talent for the next quarter.

I was asked to continue working in the next phase of the film’s production, where my role grew from just being a concept artist to being the Art Director for the film. In addition to continuing my work of making 2D assets and illustrations, other team members would check in with me to insure consistency in the designs, and guidance for new ideas.
